What is POCKY? When I was a kid, I only remember eating chocolate and strawberry flavored Pocky sticks (Flavored pretzels from Japan), but now, it's grown into a whole new family of delectable treats! Okay, so I'm on a "diet," so I've come up with this taste test in the name of "research," so enjoy! (** I'm not getting anything from these people; I'm just a huge fan! However, if Meiji or Glico want to send me a care package, that would be fantastic!) They can be purchased in most Japanese grocery stores! I know other Pretz flavors exist, so this is a work in progress until I can find them all! |

"Fran Chocolate Biscuit" by Meiji (www.meiji.co.jp) The box says,"Made with light and crisp cocoa biscuit and covered with milk chocolate." 342 kcals per box (15 sticks per box). Janet's taste buds say: "This is advanced Pocky! The sticks are more cookie-like than pretzel, but in the most delicious way!" |
||||

"Fran White Chocolate Biscuit" by Meiji Same cocoa biscuits as above, but covered with white chocolate. 345 kcals per box (15 sticksper box). Janet's taste buds say: "We're not huge white chocolate fans, so I'm going to pass this on to the husband." |

"Chocolate Stick From Leaf" by Kirin And you thought they only made beer.... Description on front: "Sunlight and mist turn a young leaf into tea. Tea can turn you into something new. Tea. A natural gift of love." 214 kcal per box. The taste test: I actually like tea flavor, which is common in Japan, but it might be a bit weird to Americans. The Brits might like this one more? I don't mind this one if someone gave it to me, but I wouldn't pick it out of the crowd. |

"Almond Crush Chocolate Pocky" by Glico (www.glico.co.jp) 472 kcals per box (12 sticks per box). Once again, I tried this one, but I'm just not a huge fan of white chocolate! What makes white chocolate white anyway? It takes like powdered sugar to me. |

"Almond Pocky" by Glico Description on box: "Fermentative roasted pretzels and rich almond cream create a new type of POCKY." 414 kcals per box (comes in 2 packs). What the heck is "fermentative roasted pretzels?" Again, I didn't mind this one, but I wouldn't buy it if I had other Pocky to choose from. I LOVE almonds, but I don't seem to like "almond flavored" things. |

"Almond Crush Chocolate Pocky" by Glico 480 kcals per box (12 sticks per box). Finally, an ALMOND Pocky that I did like! They're like the regular Pocky, but with almond chunks! |
||||

"Creamy Choco Ko-Pocky" by Glico 205 kcals per box. I forgot to count the number of sticks, but this is a smaller box, just the right size for snacking! It's the same stuff inside, but it's packaged in a cuter box! |
||||

"Coconut Chocolate Pocky" by Glico 264 kcals per box (16 sticks per box). I happen to like coconuts, but this was a bit much. I thought that the coconut flavor really overwhelmed everything about the Pocky. |
||||

"Pudding Pocky" by Glico 213 kcals per box. This is another smaller box, perfect for the snack alone! "Pudding" in Japan is different from the American pudding, in that it only comes in one pudding flavor and tastes more like custard or flan. It can't remember what it tasted like, so I'd better go buy another box. heh. |

"Marble Chocolate Pocky" by Glico 504 kcals per box (40 sticks per box). Again, not a fan of the white chocolate, but my husband like it. |

Wanna know what the box says on the "Men's Pocky?" "Crispy pretzel dipped in dark chocolate for the type of person who enjoys the finer points in life." Read: "Yes, the penis really is a consolation prize, and we made you a special 'Men's Pocky' so that you don't feel left out." 398 kcals per box (2 packs). The Men's Pocky actually has a higher cocoa content, so this one has the best chocolate taste; this is my Chocolate Pocky of choice, and the packagaing is funny if you think about how pathetic it is. |
||||

"Chocolate Mousse Pocky" by Glico Description on box: "Lighten up your day with Pocky's super smooth aero-chocolate." 357 kcals per box (18 sticks per box). This is pretty good, too. It's chocolate cookie-like sticks with like whipped chocolate covering. Very few sticks per box, so beware of hungry friends! |

"Strawberry Pocky with Strawberry Bits" by Glico 436 kcals per box (40 sticks). I think I like the old-school Strawberry Pocky better, where it's smooth and you don't know if there are actually any real strawberries in there. These "bits" were a bit much for me, as if I needed "proof" that it was flavored with strawberries. I don't mind artificial, as long as it's good artificial flavoring, know what I mean? |

"Strawberry Ko-Pocky" by Glico 202 kcal per box. Once again, a smaller, cuter packaging. Not sure if it's targeting kids or 30+ women like me. This is more like the old-school Strawberry Pocky. Great with afternoon coffee breaks. |

"White Chocolate Mousse Pocky" by Glico On box: "Lighten up your day with Pocky's super smooth aero-chocolate." 360 kcals per box (18 sticks per box). White chocolate. What can I say.... |

"Cocoa Pretz" by Glico 182 kcal per box. This one is just chocolate flavored pretzel, with no chocolate covering or anything like that. Japanese Pretz is a lot lighter than American pretzels, I think, not that it's a bad/good thing, because I like American pretzels, too. I think I'm old-school Pretz fan, so if given a choice, I prefer regular Pretz with flavoring on top of it, as opposed to inside the Pretz. I'd go with the Pretz below: |

"Tomato Pretz" by Glico 444 kcals per box (4 packs per box). Okay, this box looks boring, but this is actually one of my favorite ones! It's just like pretzels, but it's lighter than its American counterpart, and the flavor is so delectable! From the box, it looks like it has a lot of calories, but because it's not covered with anything, there are more sticks per box in there! This is what I would get for long car rides--delicious and more to share! |
