How to Cut Mangoes!
My parents have a HUGE mango tree in their backyard, and Merv & I picked the tree every morning for a fresh breakfast!

Mangoes on the Tree
They hang off the tree, and if it's not in your reach, there's a mango picking stick (see next photo). It's has a metal basket at the end, with some of the ends curving in.

Team Mango
Merv & my dad. With the mango picker, you find the fruit that you want, put it in the basket, and give it a twist, and it'll come off!

The Extra-long Picker
The mango stick with the extender is where it's at!

Breakfast!
Our day's work! It's best to pick the reddish-orange ones.

The Mango Seed
Here's what the seed looks like: it's flat! So how do you cut it to maximize your fruit pieces?

Peel the Skin
Once you find the ripe, juicy mango, first peel the skin off. It's kind of soft, so you'll have to use a knife, not a peeler. Of course, you don't have to use a monster sized knife like this....

Cut the Top
Cut enough so that you can see that middle "dot."

The Seed Map
That "dot" in the middle is oblong, and is the map of where your seed is, flat. In this case, it's flat where my finger & knife are outlining the oblong shape of the "dot."

Cut Along the Seed
Basically, I'm cutting where my finger & knifer were in the photo above.

The Perfect Cut
Ta-da! I've sliced right on the two sides of the flat seed. The two side pieces--maximized fruit pieces!

Cut to Bite Size
From there, you can cut around the seed, and dice the rest.

TA-DA!
Breakfast! I LOVE mango! When it's ripe right off the tree, it's so sweet, juicy, and the texture is just right!

Cut Coconut
OK, totally unrelated, but here's a coconut off another tree in the backyard. We had the gardener cut the top with a machete. See the coconut juice inside? (It's clear.) Drink a lot of that, and you'll have the worst diarrhea ever....

Scraping the coconut meat
This is a really young coconut, so the meat is soft and there's not much on the sides. You can just get a spoon and scrape it off.

Lemon Tree
Again, totally unrelated, but here's my mom's lemon tree. She used to have a papaya tree, so we'd squeeze a bit of lemon on the papaya and eat that for breakfast, too!
