Can One Be 8 Months Pregnant & Still Be Fabulous? "Maternity clothes" usually implies that one is confined to "frumpy," "matronly," or just plain ol' "ugly clothing made out of cheapy fabrics." But it doesn't have to be! So here are some of my "Maternity Fashion Pointers and photos below! 1. Invest in a few pairs of good maternity pants/skirts (I love my Bennetton Maternity Black Jeans, Old Navy Blue Jeans, & Gap Maternity Black Slacks) because comfort is key.... 2. Don't limit yourself to maternity shops! You can still shop at regular stores that you frequent when NOT pregnant--just try them on a few sizes bigger! You'll be much happier with the styles & fabrics, and often times, it's cheaper than shopping at a "specialty" maternity store! 3. Make sure the fit on the non-maternity wear clothing is good on you! Sometimes, I had to sew the straps shorter on the larger sizes, and sometimes I sewed in the sides a little, but left the waist part roomy. If you don't sew, most dry cleaning places have tailors & they're not that expensive. 4. Make sure that the tops are a little longer--the tops that were just right on me at 5 months pregnant are now too short now that I have a basketball size belly....

Pink Striped Dress & Fur Jacket This dress is actually one of my favorite skirts that I bought in San Francisco, & it doubles perfectly as a dress! Don't be afraid of stripes or patterns--wear what makes you feel fabulous! It's all about stretch knits....

Pink Asymmetric Tee & Black Jeans I think I found this tee in Loehmann's for $12.... Baggy, drapey knits are great for big bellies! And doesn't the asymmetry take the focus away from the belly?

Ramones Tee & drapey skirt This is one of my few "maternity" splurge purchases, and I LOVE this tee! I bought it at: www.unbuttonedmaternity.com It has gathers in just the right places for a fabulous fit! And the stretchy knit skirts are great!

Pink Empire Waist Top I bought this on sale at Express for $14.99! I had to buy a size Large, and sewed the straps shorter for myself. A lot of regular clothing stores sell tops with empire waists right now, so be on the lookout!

Yoga Outfit Stretchy & comfy! I just started going to prenatal yoga.... I'm wearing just my usual yoga pants, a stretch Old Navy Maternity tank top, & this cute sweater is from H&M Maternity!

Black Empire Waist Top & sweater I also bought this empire waist top on sale at Express for $14.99! The straps and everything was a perfect fit! I can't close most of my regular sweaters in the front, but it keeps my arms warm! I think the vertical lines in the front help to "slim" the belly, too.

Lilac Tee & jeans They have a bunch of tees in regular stores at the moment with gathers on the bottom--yay! I think prints are fine for distracting the front away from the big belly!

Black & Gold Top with Black Hoodie I also bought this empire waist top on sale at Express for $14.99! I love my black hoodie--before & during my pregnancy! Black is always slimming, New Yorkers can never wear too much black....
